Thos one is for you Grandma

This June, I’ll be taking part in a walk that means a lot to me. I’m walking to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, in memory of my Grandma — a woman who meant the world to me, and who I miss every single day.

Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease. It doesn’t just take memories; it slowly changes the person you love into someone unrecognisable. Watching my grandma go through that was one of the hardest experiences my family has faced. The little things you take for granted — conversations, shared jokes, even a simple smile of recognition — gradually fade away. And yet, even as those memories slipped, the love we felt for her never did.

This walk is my way of honouring her. It’s a chance to remember who she was before the illness, to celebrate her life, and to do something positive in the face of something that can feel so helpless. Every step I take will be for her — for the memories we shared, and for all the moments Alzheimer’s tried to take away.

I’m also walking for the millions of families affected by dementia. No one should have to watch a loved one disappear in this way. Alzheimer’s Research UK is doing incredible work to find a cure, to improve diagnosis, and to offer hope for the future. Supporting their research means supporting a world where fewer families have to go through what we did.
