Terms & Conditions

 The following provisions apply to participants registered for Walk For A Cure to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) only: 

Registration

  1. We reserve the right to refuse any application at our absolute discretion, without providing reasons for doing so.
  2. Only registered participants and their children and/or carers are eligible to take part on the day, spectators may not walk the route with participant and understand if they do they are not covered by the event organisers risk assessment nor medical team.

5km Accessible Walks:

  1. All entrants under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult (over 18), by registering you confirm this is the case.
  2. Adults (over 18), can supervise a maximum of 3 children each.

Longer Distance Walks:

  1. All entrants must be on or over the age of 17 on event day. Entrants confirm , by accepting the Terms and Conditions, that they are over the age of 18, or 17 years of age with parental permission.
  2. Your registration payment is non-refundable and non-transferable and does not count towards your fundraising target.

 

Fundraising

  1. By registering for Walk For A Cure, you agree to meet the minimum sponsorship amount as specified on each Walk For A Cure event webpage. (5km accessible walks = £150, longer distance walks = £250)
  2. Gift Aid is in addition to the minimum sponsorship amount and cannot be counted towards it.
  3. The fundraising milestones we will look for across your fundraising journey include, setting up your fundraising page and receiving your first donation within 2 months of registration, reaching at least 50% target 2 months out from event date, and during event month raising at least 80% of your target.
  4. All monies raised as part of your pledge must be paid to ARUK within 6 weeks of the event date. If a deficit to the minimum sponsorship amount remains after this time, ARUK may work with you on a case-by-case basis to address the shortfall. ARUK may contact you and require you to pay the difference if no resolution is reached. You may also be asked to cover the shortfall directly.
  5. All donations raised through fundraising on behalf of the individual must be paid directly to ARUK.

Withdrawals or transfers

  1. You can withdraw from your place in Walk For A Cure at any point by emailing walkforacure@alzheimersresearchuk.org  or by calling 0300 1115555. No withdrawal fee will be payable to ARUK, however we regret that we are unable to refund any registration payment or sponsorship that you may have raised for or paid to ARUK prior to your withdrawal.
  2. You are able to transfer your place to another Walk For A Cure Event with no additional charge, this is applicable up to seven days before the event. After such time, you will be unable to transfer your entry. 
  3. Deferrals requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, based on one, or more, of the following:
  • You have reached fundraising milestones and you’re on track to raise our minimum sponsorship target.
  • You have to withdraw due to exceptional circumstances.
  • You have been in contact with the ARUK fundraising team during the event journey and have let us know about your withdrawal at the earliest opportunity.

4. A deferred place can only be deferred for a maximum of 1 year unless you are pregnant or postpartum (subject to availability). Your place can only be deferred to the consecutive year’s event. If the participant still cannot take part in that consecutive year, then Alzheimer’s Research UK cannot offer the participant the option to defer for a following year, irrespective of the above considerations. The place is given back to Alzheimer’s Research UK and the participant will have to register/apply again to participate.

5. If you’re successful in confirming a deferred event place, you may be required to pay a deferral fee to confirm your place.  You may also be required to commit to the sponsorship pledge that is set for the following year.

6. Failing to participate in any Walk For A Cure Event, for any reason, will not result in that entry being deferred to future races.

Cancellation and Postponement 

  1. If the event is cancelled due to reasons beyond our control, we will make all reasonable attempts to reschedule the Event, but this cannot be guaranteed.
  2. All fundraising in relation to the event will be treated as a non-refundable donation to support the charity’s work. 

 

On the Day Conduct 

  1. Some venues allow participation with your dog. Please check the specific event home page to see if they are allowed at your preferred location. The dog is the full responsibility of the owner and must be kept on a short lead at all times.
  2. Participants are asked to follow the waymarked route, unless directed otherwise by a marshal or member of event staff. If any participant is to vary from the official route, they do so at their own risk.
  3. Walk for a Cure includes distance from 5km to 42km, they must not be run or cycled. If a participant chooses to run or cycle the route, they understand they do so at their own risk and are no longer covered by the risk assessment of the event.
  4. Participants are responsible for ensuring they are dressed in appropriate attire for the on the day activity and suitably prepared for weather conditions.
  5. Participants who show up late to the event understand they may be asked to participate in an altered or shortened route, if they chose to continue and partake in the full route, they do so under their own risk. 

Fitness & Medical 

  1. By registering for Walk for a Cure all participants acknowledge that the Event contains a physical component, and that participation in the Event will be physical in part. You confirm you are aware of the associated medical and physical risks involved and are physically capable of competing in the Event and agree that ARUK and Hike Events Ltd, its officers, employees, agents, affiliates, sponsors, charities or medical advisers are not responsible for any injury or illness that you may suffer as a result of my participation in the Event. 
  2. The event organisers will have a medical team on-site. By signing up you agree to complete your emergency contact and medical information on the lanyard/bib number supplied to you on event day, which will be used by our medical team should it be needed.

Accessibility

  1. For our 5k accessible walks, ARUK endeavour’s to create an event accessible to all, regardless of age or ability. However, we encourage all participants to check the specific event website for information on gradient and terrain. Should you have any concerns about the accessibility of an event, please contact us directly on walkforacure@alzheimersresearchuk.org.

General

Any images, videos, audio or quotes we collect from you in connection with your participation in or fundraising for Walk For A Cure may be used by ARUK on social media, website and in future marketing materials or other publications. If you would like your image removed, please contact fundraising@alzheimersresearchuk.org.

We will aim to remove all images within 10 working days.

 

Data Protection

  1. You have provided ARUK with information about you and you agree to us using this data. ARUK will process your data in accordance with GDPR and retain it for no longer than necessary for the purposes of managing your participation in this event.
  2. You understand that it may be necessary for us to share the data with the race organisers in order to participate in this event.
  3. Medical information provided will be securely stored and only accessed by the event's medical team, with data deleted no loater then three months post-event. 
  4. For further information about how we collect and use personal data, please refer to the ARUK privacy policy.
  5. All registrants acknowledge that neither Hike Events Ltd or Alzheimer’s Research UK shall be held liable for:
  • any loss or damage of personal equipment
  • any indirect or consequential losses
  1. In no event shall we, Alzheimer’s Research UK or Hike Events Ltd. be liable to you whether for breach of contract, any tortious act or omission (including negligence) or otherwise, under or in connection with these terms and conditions for any direct or indirect (i) loss or damage, (ii) loss of profit, loss of reputation, (iii) loss of business, (iv) loss of revenue or goodwill, (v) loss of anticipated savings, (vi) pledges made on your behalf or by you to charity, or (vii) any consequential or indirect loss, regardless of whether the loss or damage (a) would arise in the ordinary course of events, (b) is reasonably foreseeable, or (c) is in contemplation of the parties, or otherwise.
  2. This includes but is not limited to harassment, bullying, discrimination, or other inappropriate conduct. ARUK reserves the right to remove participants who fail to adhere to these standards.
  3. Nothing in these Conditions of Entry shall exclude or limit the liability of Hike Events Ltd or Alzheimer’s Research UK for personal injury caused by Hike Events Ltd or Alzheimer’s Research UK negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any matter for which it would be illegal for Hike Events Ltd or Alzheimer’s Research UK to exclude or attempt to exclude its liability.
  4. We have strived to ensure that the information provided in relation to Walk For A Cure is accurate at the time of publication, timely, unbiased and useful. However, no information provided by ARUK or Hike Events Ltd. should be treated as medical guidance or professional advice. We are not responsible for errors or omissions in the information provided nor any actions resulting from the use of such information, and ARUK makes no warranty of any kind, either express or implied, with respect to this information. Use of the information provided is voluntary.
  5. On confirmation of your place you will be invited to join our Walk For A Cure Facebook groups. We have the right to use any material posted on the groups in our marketing materials or future communications. We reserve the right to remove or hide any content posted on these groups with no reason given.
  6. We ask that you avoid behaving in anyway which may cause offence or damage to the reputation of ARUK or by behaving in a way which may cause harm or injury to other spectators and/or participants.

 

These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law. Any dispute arising under or in connection with these terms and conditions shall be referred for determination to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
