Forget me not
I’m taking part in this walk as both a care assistant and a granddaughter.
Working in care, I see every day how dementia affects not just memory, but confidence, independence, and the little moments that make up a person’s life. I see the strength it takes for individuals to navigate each day, and the quiet resilience of the families who stand beside them. Dementia doesn’t just impact one person, it touches everyone who loves them.
This cause is also deeply personal to me. I lost my wonderful Grandad, Grandad Chis, to dementia. Watching someone you love slowly change is incredibly hard, but even through it all, he was still him, still loved, still important, still ours. Walking in his memory means carrying those moments with me and honouring the man he was beyond his illness.
I’m walking for the residents I care for.
I’m walking for their families.
And I’m walking for my Grandad Chis 💙
