Walking For A Cure

Wednesday 10th Jun

On 4th July, we’re taking part in the Alzheimer’s Research UK walk in Sutton in memory of my dad, David.

My dad was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in his 40s. Unlike the dementia many people are familiar with, FTD often affects personality, behaviour and communication first. Its impact reaches far beyond memory loss, and as it progresses, independence and everyday life become increasingly limited.

Over the next almost ten years, we watched its effects unfold whilst he faced challenges that gradually took away parts of who he once was, until we said goodbye in July 2021.

Despite everything, my dad was funny, loving, always up for anything, and the person I could go to with absolutely anything.

That’s why this walk means so much to us. Sutton Park is full of memories from time spent with him growing up. I’ll be walking with my own little family, who he sadly never got to meet, which makes the day especially meaningful.

We’re raising money to support research, improve understanding of conditions like FTD, and help bring us closer to fewer families having to experience its impact.
