Walk For A Cure - Poole

I'm taking part in Walk For A Cure.

Many of you will know that my wonderful Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2021, not long after we completed our adoption journey in 2019 — a time that already brought its own challenges, but also so much love into our lives.

Her decline was incredibly fast, and I suddenly found myself balancing life as a parent to young children while also caring for my Mum.

Watching someone who meant everything to me gradually lose their memories and sense of self has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. She no longer knows me, which is something I never imagined having to face. There have been so many moments where it’s felt like I’m saying goodbye to her in small ways, over and over again, even though she is still here.

She is, and always will be, such a huge part of who I am, and I miss the Mum I knew every single day.

That’s why this means so much to me. I want to turn something so difficult into something positive — to support research that could one day spare other families this kind of heartbreak, and help people live longer, fuller lives with dignity and independence.

If you’re able to support in any way, whether by donating or sharing this page, it would mean so much to me and my family. Every contribution helps bring us closer to a future without Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity, dedicated to finding a cure and any donation will help to fuel cutting-edge research that could uncover new life-changing treatments, bringing us closer to a cure.

Thank you for your support.
