UK Statistics of Alzheimer's
Friday 3rd Jul- Total Cases: An estimated 982,000 to 1,000,000 people are currently living with dementia in the UK.
- Diagnosis Rates: Across NHS England, about 510,000 people have a recorded, formal diagnosis. The diagnosis rate for patients aged 65 and over is roughly 66.1%.
- Young-Onset: Over 70,800 people are living with young-onset dementia, developing symptoms before age 65.
- Leading Cause of Death: Dementia claims over 11.8% of all deaths in the UK, making it the biggest killer and claiming more lives than stroke and heart disease.
- Gender Disparity: It has been the leading cause of death for UK women since 2011, killing nearly 49,000 women annually compared to roughly 28,000 men.
- Care Home Impact: An estimated 70% of people in English care homes live with dementia or severe memory problems.
