Team Ockbrook taking part in Walk For A Cure
Philippa and Jenny together with their incredibly supportive friends Siobhan and Merryn have signed up to a 42km walk in the Peak District to raise money to help Alzheimers Research find a cure.
This is something incredibly close to our hearts especially to Philippa and Jenny who both have parents suffering with this illness . If you have time please read our story.
Jenny’s story - Daddy’s girl
Dad was my rock I grew up wanting to hang out with him whenever I could. We shared a lot of hobbies - our weekends were full either sailing (I sailed he sat in the bar at the clubhouse), he got me matching overalls so we could work on his classic cars together (I sat in the drivers seat listening to the Beach Boys tape whilst he was working on the car), Even through my university years we spent most weekends selling classic car parts at auto jumbles. As I got older I followed a similar career and we did a lot of work events together ..( it took me a while to be seen for me rather than Johns daughter as everyone knew and loved dad) . Then in 2021 dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s , something I had witnessed with both his parents and something I know he was always in fear of. He had not long retired and wasn’t even 70. To have someone who has always been a huge part of my life slowly fade away has been a painful journey .
It’s a slow terminal illness with nothing available to cure it. This is why Phillippa and I together with our great friends Siobhan and Merryn plan to push ourselves to walk 42 km in the Peak District on the 13th September to raise well needed money to help find a cure !
