I'm taking part in Walk For A Cure
On 4th July, my wife and I will be taking part in the Alzheimer’s Research UK Walk For A Cure in Sutton in memory of her dad, David.
David was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia FTD in his 40s. Unlike the dementia many people are familiar with, FTD often affects behaviour, personality, and communication before memory, gradually changing a person’s ability to live independently.
For nearly 10 years, my wife and her family saw the impact of this disease firsthand as David faced increasing challenges, until they sadly said goodbye to him in July 2021.
While dementia became part of David’s story, it never defined who he was. Although I never had the chance to meet him, the stories I’ve heard paint a picture of someone who was funny, caring, and always ready for a laugh. Those memories remind us of the person behind the diagnosis and why this cause means so much to our family.
We’ll be taking part with our little family in a place that holds many memories of my wife and her dad, making it a special way to remember David.
By taking part, we hope to support other families affected by dementia. We’re raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK to help fund research, improve understanding of conditions like FTD, and move us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, donate, or share our page.
