Hike for a Cure - Peak District

I'm taking part in Walk For A Cure

We're taking part in Walk For A Cure because we've seen close up how dementia steals everything of value from so many people, little by little. That's what happened to John Hallett, my dad. He lost so much more than his memory - peace of mind, dignity, ability to make choices. Before dementia he was a man who naturally took the lead, a man who was bold and confident in making difficult life decisions. As dementia tightened its hold on him, he was confused, scared, angry at those who tried to help him. He didn't know us, he didn't remember his beloved wife who had died years before. It is heartbreaking to see anyone reduced in this way, let alone someone you love. He died in March 2025, but we had been losing and grieving him for long before that.

Alzheimer's Research UK are the UK's leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure. For many of us, as we get older, and our loved ones get older, dementia is what we fear most. We need to have the hope of a cure, for ourselves and the people we love - for all of us.'

Your donation helps scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
