Walk for a Cure - Sefton Park, Liverpool

I'm taking part in Walk For A Cure

I'm taking part in Walk For A Cure because every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.

Alzheimer's Research UK are the UK's leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure.

Your donation helps scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.

Celebrating the Life of a Remarkable Man: A Tribute to My Grandad

Monday 1st Jul

I will be walking in memory of my beloved grandad, who we sadly lost to dementia. My grandad was more than just a family member; he was a cornerstone of our community and an inspiration to all who knew him.

A Dedicated Servant to the Community

My grandad proudly served as a police officer in Liverpool, and his dedication to his duty was unmatched. He was one of the longest-serving policemen in the area later receiving a BEM from the Queen and his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of others was evident in every action he took.

A Passion for Boxing

Outside of his police work, my grandad had a deep passion for boxing. He served as the chairman of the Gemini Boxing Club, where he not only guided young athletes but also actively participated in refereeing matches. His love for the sport was infectious, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

A Devoted Family Man

Above all, my grandad was a family man. No problem was ever too much for him to handle. He had a unique gift for making people laugh, and his love for cartoons was a testament to his playful and joyful nature. His presence brought warmth and happiness to our family, and his legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in our hearts.

The Impact of Dementia

Watching dementia take its toll on my grandad was one of the most heart-wrenching experiences of my life. The illness not only affected him but also deeply impacted our entire family. The strength and resilience we had to muster during those challenging times will stay with me forever. It has fueled my determination to support others who are going through similar experiences.

Walking for Grandad

In honor of my grandad’s life and legacy, we will be celebrating him on Sunday by participating in a charity walk. This walk is not just a tribute to his memory but also a way to raise awareness and support for those affected by dementia. We hope that through our efforts, we can make a difference and help other families navigate the challenges of this devastating illness.

As we walk, we will carry with us the memories of a man who dedicated his life to helping others, who brought joy and laughter to his family, and who will forever be remembered as a pillar of strength and love.

Grandad, this walk is for you. Thank you for everything you did for us and for the community. Your spirit will continue to inspire us every day.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my grandad. If you would like to join us in supporting the fight against dementia, please consider donating to our cause. Together, we can make a difference.
